NX CAM supports a wide range of data formats giving you the ability to machine to any type of 3D data. Foreign data can either be opened directly in an NX session or can be translated into native NX format, at the core of NX is Parasolid, the world’s leading geometric modeling kernel developed by UGS.
Parasolid provides unmatched compatibility for 3D data, which means that NX can seamlessly handle data from other packages such as SolidWorks which also use the Parasolid kernel.
NX widely supports different data formats such as STEP, IGES, DXF/DWG and STL. Dedicated translators also give you the ability to read in Catia V4/V5 and Pro-E data directly into NX. NX also supports JT data, a mature lightweight data format that has become the preferred standard for many end users.
NC Programming on different geometry types
With NX CAM you can create toolpaths on virtually any type of geometry such as wireframe, surfaces, solids or any combination of these. This flexibility can be extremely valuable when working with third party data, NX does not constrain you to work with any one particular type of data.
Geometry Validation
NX also provides analysis tools to check the imported geometry for irregularities. Inconsistencies found in the imported geometry can be fixed with advanced geometry healing capabilities. Model comparison utilities allow you to compare the geometries from two different parts thereby making it easy to track design changes when dealing with imported data.
